Kodak, best known for making film for cameras, has recently announced the KAF-31600 CCD, which boasts a resolution of 31.6-megapixels, the higher-end KAF-39000 features 39-megapixels. The current camera using a Kodak CCD with 22-megapixels costs roughly $30,000, that's about $1,300 per megapixel. I expect a camera featuring the 39-megapixel CCD will cost several tens of thousands of dollars.

Yeah, like $50,000-$70,000.

Who would be crazy enough to waste money on that? I would use it to buy a new car! (i.e. A BMW 5 series)

Just because you are a photogropher does not mean that you should waste so much money on a camera. For under $400 you can find good cameras that will give you good image quality. Only if you were in the television buissnesss would you buy something like that...

When you are a photographer, sometimes it does mean that, like when it is your profession. Although I have doubts about the image quality of the CCD, cuz the more pixels there are, the harder it is for each one to capture light.

Are you talking about Camcorders, or Cameras? If it's a Camcorder, it's sorely needed, because Camcorders are fairly low resolution right now...but cameras are very good quality already, and if you want a high quality camera, the highest quality ones are usually film cameras.

It's made for digital cameras. But about the camcorders, they actually don't need very high resolutions. Most televisions display video at resolutions of 60i or 30p. High definition televisions display video at 720p to 1080p (although usually 1080i, only Sony has a television capable of displaying 1080p). Now, the still resolution of most good camcorders is around 1-3 megapixels. 3 megapixels is already 2048x1536 pixels, higher than the resolution of most comptuer monitors. So even high definition televisions aren't even capable of displaying 3-megapixel images.
