First of all allow me to say that my mom has an incredibly hightened sense of danger. At the slightest sign of any little thing that has the smallest potential to be dangerous, she'll freak out. In this respect I am her complete opposite. I lack a proper sense of fear. Horror movies are my favorite genre, and I am the type of person who throws caution to the winds. My mom was always the cautious type, preferring to take a lot of precautions. This included wearing a seat belt in the car. She told me to do this too, and since I was young and impressionable at the time, I was indoctrinated. Now, as a result of instructions planted in my subconscious, I always wear a seat belt in the car. Although it seems contradictory to my tendency to throw caution to the winds, I really do not mind this. This is because, as I see it, wearing a seat belt takes very little effort, the chances of it being harmfull are small to begin with and decrease further if I use it properly, and in the event that I am in a car accident, it could save me from some harm.

Just a small note. In Taiwan only the driver's seat and the passenger's seat are required to wear seat belts. The reat seats are not required to wear seat belts (IIRC from what my dad told me), and some of the time, cars don't come equipped with them. Interesting eh?
serebii
In India, noone has to wear a seatbelt. biggrin.gif
Timebandit
thats becasue your not driving at 75 MPH on an express way. but still.
serebii
Well... at 80 KPH. And still, no seatbelt. laugh.gif
Timebandit
yeah, but in a fender bender, on the mythbusters they showed how you can still break your neck.
serebii

yeah true. but all he was doing is say to where your seatbelt. i mean, if you havnt gotten into a car accident, unlike me. you have NOOOOO frekin idea how scary that **** is. OMG its so scary....

in my case, looking left out the window and seeing a red subaru impresa coming full speed, 50mph at my face. and not stoping. an average human in a car crash recives 120g forces for a few micro seconds. a fighter pilot can recive 9g forces in a sharp turn or look. so thats 120 times my weight for micro seconds.

scorce. mythbusters. dont say there wrong...there never wrong.

I have! Scary as hell man. I rolled over though. the car had flipped over.

I think the funniest quote by Adam is "I reject your faulty reality and substitute my own." We should start up a Mythbusters quote topic... biggrin.gif

It depends. I always wear my seatbelt. But sometimes in accidents, if the person in the accident is wearing a seatbelt they could be killed, instead of saved. My cousin was in a car accident. He didn't wear his seatbelt, when he hit the other car head on, he fell on the floor. When he fell on the floor he missed being crushed to death by the debris, the force, and the steering wheel.
Timebandit
thank god shes ok but the chances of that...
punkrocker45
Yeah, thats the problem, having a seatbelt could save you, but not all the time.
Timebandit
well its still better than not wearing one.
punkrocker45
I know, I wear my seatbelt all the time. I was just presenting an example that sometimes no seatbelt can save you. I'm not saying you should never wear a seatbelt, just that you never know what might happen the next time you get into a car.
Bobalini
ugh who realy cares, it has its down sides and its up sides, like if you get thrown just the right way it will snap your neck and the friction will burn through your skin and cut open your jugular, or you could just fly up and crack your head open on the wind sheild, by not wearing one, well w/e even if u wear one bad things can happen, if you dont like that you are presented with theese risks then never ride a motor vehicle, just walk everywhere

Too slow. Four wheelers are better, or something with an engine. Anywho, If you are in town, don't, but if you are out on the highway, do.
Timebandit
ATVs are awsome. 4 wheels and a motor. whoorah
punkrocker45
There was this girl that went to my school, she was riding and ATV and got into a crash and was killed. So ATV's are no safer than if you drove a car without wearing a seatbelt.
Timebandit
yeah, but in the winter when knowones on the road.
punkrocker45
Yeah, but then again you have to think about the ice that could be on the road.
Herloss
Unless you drive like a chimpanzee, ice shouldnt be a problem.
punkrocker45
yeah you are right about that.
Herloss
I swear, every winter people forget what ice is and we get a bunch of wrecks in the beginning. Honestly, as far as I'm concerned, anyone who get's into an accident because of their own driving deserves whatever they get.

It's really weird but I had a health teacher last year with that same philosophy. You are right, around my house there are so many wrecks because of people forgetting about ice. Most people are stupid when they drive they fix their hair/make-up, drink coffee, talk on a cellphone, and mess with the radio dial.

I know a girl, day after she got her liscense, hadn't even been 24 hours yet, rolled her car while she was talking on her cell.
punkrocker45
That is really bad that you would do that the first day!

I hate cell phones. What is worse is people talking on their cell phones while driving behind you. They get so close you could swear you fealt the cars bump and then they back off again and give you a dirty look. It makes me want to stomp the brakes hard. No warning. Then I could sue them for rear-ending me. tongue.gif

That happened to another girl I know. She was following someone extremely close, they stomped on their brakes, and she plowed right into them. I laughed in her face when she told me the story.
Timebandit

They are still distracting. It is less of a distraction than having to hold onto it and dial, but your mind is still thinking about hwat you are saying, instead of what that guy in the red car over there is going to do next.
