Full Version: Video iPod Apple's First Bad Move?
Krazy Letter Forums > News > Current Events

An anonymous reader writes "Apple has had a lot of success with the iPod brand the past few years. The NYT has an article up wondering if, just maybe, this week's release of the video iPod was too soon." From the article: "Everyone from Microsoft to Comcast - in other words, the usual suspects - is working on or looking at similar pocket-size recorders. At least two companies, Pace Micro Technology of Britain and Samsung of South Korea, have said they plan to introduce models early next year. There is also TivoToGo, a service that can forward recorded shows to various mobile devices, even Sony PSP handheld gaming units ... [anyway,] the video iPod only has it half right: if it took material from the television as readily as it did from the Internet, it could be a blockbuster. But then who would pay $1.99 to download an episode of 'Lost' from iTunes if the iPod could also hook up to your television and record that same episode free? Unlike its musical forebear, the video iPod may not be ready for prime time. "

$1.99 is a killer deal though. But knowing Apple, this will be a success. I thought that the Shuffle would be a disaster, but now it owns most of the market!!!!!!! I have no doubt that the iPod Video will also prevail.

$2.00 for a TV show is actually pretty good in my opinion. I don't think I'm going to get one yet.
Apple really needs to wait a while before making an new iPod. The came out with the shuffle a while ago, then the nano, now the video iPod. There just going to fast.

Indeed it is fast, but $299 for a 30-gigabyte video player is a killer deal.

Heck yeah!

I would buy a video I-pod anyday for that price. Although $1.99 a show maybe a little pricey it is pretty good cause you are not going to be a crazy person who uses it all the time...just once in a while.

It is a good deal. I got my video player for the same price, but it isn't nearly as compatible as the iPod, and its only 20 gigs. Of course, it is about a year old... that probably explains the lack of gigs.
Senor Halo Blue 9
Oh yeah go on complain...djbob...ONLY 20 gigs....

Yeah, and with the device itself starting at $299, that is cheaper than any formidable portable media centre I have seen.

How many gigs does the new video I-pod have....

The actual formatted capacity is less than 30 and 60 gigabytes.
djbob
But you were wrong when you said 20.

Okay, I forgot. Cuz recently, before the release of the iPod Video, the mainstream versions were 20 and 60 gigabytes.

-EDIT-

Ah yes, and 30, but I forgot about that.

Although apple has been coming out with the I-pods really quickly, I think that within a couple months to a year Apple will be the dominating company in the technology market...It is not long before Apple beats (OWNS AND INCERATES) Microsoft in fame and fortune...

Well, actually. Linux has been taking more of the market away from Microsoft than Apple has. (although Linux is indeed not really in the market, I am referring to the users)
Senor Halo Blue 9
Well yes but I mean that Apple will be the big boomer of the corprate world very soon....

Well, in that case, I think it has done that a long time ago. I mean, with the release of the Apple II and the iPod.
Senor Halo Blue 9
Not just in that but like completly dominating Microsoft....

Actually, I hate to admit it, but Microsoft's Windows operating system has been totally killing Apple's Mac OS X operating system in the operating system market.

Im getting a new ipod soon to replace my 2nd gen mini. Should i get a video ipod or ipod nano?
lappy512
The nano's screen scratches too easily, I've heard. If you can afford if, and don't mind the size, I'd think the video is the way to go.
Senor Halo Blue 9
Yeah go with the Video. Ian has a video and it kicks butt! He has every episode of Family Guy on that thing! It is awsome! Plus it has a lot of gigs! MORE COMPARED TO NANO and although worth more it is a lot better than the nano as we all know...Also to myscrnnm yeah i agree of course Microsoft is killing Apple but I WANT apple to dominate Microsoft...Not that that is happening now but it will soon....very soon...

Actually, if you want video, I'd opt for a Samsung, iRiver, Creative, or Archos portable media centre. They have larger screens than the fifth-generation iPod and better resolutions. Also, they usually have TV tuners so you can record stuff from the television for free.

I agree that apple is going to fast also, but the video ipods are a great deal and i traded in my old ipod photo 30gb for the new video and saved money!!!!
pretty good deal if you ask me.
