Portal is a new game that valve is going to release with Half Life 2 Episode 2.
It was a concept formerly made by digipen students, the game
Narbacular Drop. It's a single player puzzle game, but I can see it becoming a really cool first person shooter or something. What do you guys think?

Wierd but might be cool.

That looks so cool. I'm not sure that I can think like that, though. That'd require so much mental coordination.

wow that looks like a sick game(especially the last part) where do you play it? and you should add a mini demo of that in the arcade

It's not out yet, it's not in flash, but it's based on the game
Narbacular Drop by digipen students.

Actually, it doesn't seem that hard to make to me, compared with other games with FPS graphics and physics. Computer simulations don't abide by physics unless we want them to.

So far it looks pretty cool. I can see the potential it has, like adding more strategy to shooters or adventure games, requiring more foresight and stuff.

The whole thing is that they are modifying the Half life 2 engine, which would basically need for two "cameras", one where the other portal is, and one where you are. Usually people don't do that when making game engines. Also, even though the teleportation wouldn't be too hard, it would take some more effort than just using the engine to create a game.
Mynck
Jul 22 2006, 10:54 PM
Ah. Well, teleportation has been done before, and how hard could it be to have an object where, if the camera asks for information from it, it maps the image from another camera?
I think too object-oriented.

Half Life is a PC game, so it would make sense that Portal is on the PC.
