If this proposal is accepted, Alice the bot will stop posting Slashdot News articles, and will instead start posting articles from other sources such as Time, Newsweek, CNN, etc (lappy's choice). Here are some points I would like to discuss:

1) The news articles are barely touched by our members, and hardly anyone looks at them or reads them. There are some exceptions of course, but I am talking about the majority of articles here.

2) I don't know how many people on KL are into technology, but personally I am a bit bored by these Slashdot articles. On the other hand, articles relating to general current events and/or politics will be those that most everyone here can relate to in some extent.

I've looked into some other RSS feeds for alice to post, but only Slashdot's RSS feed is remotely useful with Alice. I know Yahoo/CNN's is not possible. I will be willing to look at other RSS feeds that you mention, so please list them.

Is it possible to stop adding post counts to alice's profile, because she has made the top five posters? I don't like that. A bot should not be a better poster than a human. I vote yes.

She doesn't get posts by creating toipcs, instead she gets posts by posting in the "Chat with Alice" forum.

Just make it so she can't gain posts... it's a simple mod.

I agree....Why should a bot be better than us? We are after all, superior to machines. Besides, we have living-breathing-moving entities that we travel around in with a computer already built in. It is called the brain. Some people use it more than others. Also, we have super-imposable digits. What does a bot have? We don't overload at the site of a question that we don't understand either.

I wish I could have an intelligent conversation with Alice. Maybe you guys in the Staff could upgrade it to where it has every subject of science, math, and language so it could carry on a conversation.

As far as I see it, Alice has no real understanding of language. So, it'd be hard to talk to her no matter how much she knew.

alice isint the smartest of all bots, i can crash her but i would never tell others (except lappy wich i did) how to. she can not carry out an inteligent conversation, that is the bad thing about robots, they lack indivuality and can not choose what they like on their own or what responses to say without human help.

Not yet, anyways... I plan to change that. I already have a fairly good idea of how to get them to understand a language.
