Okay, I had an idea about making tech quizzes so that members can earn some spare change. lappy is dubious of the idea, so I have to pay for this one out of my own pocket. The rules are simple, you get one chance to answer the questions. If you answer them correctly, I'll give you 50kp (maybe more if I up the wager). If you get it wrong, you're out of the running. So, let the games begin!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, if you need to edit something, you have to do it fast. If you are sure there are no edits you want to make and want verification, then put a sign at the bottom that says, "Ready for Checking"

You know all of this information is easily found on the internet? Also, this doesn't really test any tech understanding. It's all trivia. But go ahead. I'm not stopping you or anything. Please don't feel obliged to reply to this.

I don't see you bashing The Adminral for making a tech quiz. I recall that his was also trivial and had answers that were easily found.
Mynck
I wasn't trying to bash you.

Then if you don't have anything good to post, then don't post at all.
Mynck
That was something good to post, a comment, an opinion about what's happening.

If you want to post a comment, do it elsewhere, this topic is for the quiz, which is for unbiased facts.
Mynck
Well I don't see you posting anything quiz-related right now.

Well, if you didn't want me to reply, then don't post in the first place.
Mynck
Same is applying to you right now, huh? And this is your own quiz. If you choose to ruin it, then fine.

Well, I just completely seized the upper hand.

Well it's your quiz, and if you choose to keep replying, then I don't really care all that much.

As an admin, you should set an example and respect threads.

So you care about this thread less than I do?

The point is, you need to stop replying to this thread so we can get on with it, unless you have the answers to the questions.
Mynck
So, why don't you stop replying?

C'mon, Mynck, lighten up. The clone trooper's partly right...its just a quiz.

So...I'll have to research the answers to this quiz. tongue.gif

If you require the use of research, then I doubt you'll get the prize.

Read the rules carefully. I said each person only gets one chance.
Alecto
Your comprehension skills suck.

Korps Commander will win if no one else participates, so if he spends time doing research and gets everything right, no matter how long he takes, he will win since he is the only one participating.

Is that dumbed down enough for you?

Just because he is the only one participating does not mean that he will win. It is not fo' shizzle my nizzle.
Alecto
Really, and how is he going to lose if he gets everything right and is the only one participating?

If he gets everything right and is the only one participating, then he will win.
But if he gets everything right but after someone else, then he will lose.
And if he does not get everything right and is the only one participating, then he will lose.
Alecto
Exactly! Are you blind, or just an idiot? First, I dumbed it down, then you miss it. Let me bold the part that you missed in my previous post, before you make any any other moronic comments.

Of course he might not win if he enters solo, but I said if he spends time.

2. What is Intel's name in the New York Stock Exchange?
INTC
3. In which United States city and state is Alienware based?
Miami, Florida
4. Which company is the developer of the Gran Turismo driving simulator series?
Polyphony Digital
5. How many gigabytes of storage did the first Apple iPod have?
5 gigabytes of storage
6. Which American company invented the USB flash drive but neglected to patent it?
IBM
7. From which university did the founders of Hewlett-Packard graduate from?
Stanford University
8. How long is the wavelength of the laser used to read and write DVDs?
694 nm - ruby laser
9. What were the initial clock speeds of the Intel Pentium II processor?
233 and 266 MHz? (I'm not too sure about what a clock speed is, I think its the mhz)
10. What kinds of birds are featured in the Viewsonic logo?
Gouldian finches

Ready for checking (number 8 was tough for me, the rest were easy.
myscrnnm
Okay, looks as though Ali is the winner of the tech quiz. Although the answer to number eight is obscure, but it was my fault to neglect the varying speeds. So I will be transferring the sum of 50kp to Ali's account.

-EDIT-

Okay, IPB was being stupid, so it posted my thing twice, but with a different thing.
Ali
Woot! I did meh research. =)
Thanks, this was fun and it gave me some more knowledge about technology.
myscrnnm
Looks as though this wasn't a catalyst. My social studies teacher was right, the United States is becoming more anti-science.

In case you didn't notice, there weren't actually any scientific concepts in that. It was all trivia.

Tech/Science Quiz #2!

1. Explain what a cosmological constant is.

2. Describe how exactly water expands when frozen. Go deeper than "It forms a whatever." I want to know how the whatever is formed, and where.

3. What are logic gates?

4. What are the advantages and disadvantages of DRAM compared to other RAM's? How does it work?

5. Name and describe the outcomes of the basic types of radioactive decay. What forces are involved in each?

6. Write a method or function or whatever that takes a point on a Cartesian coordinate grid and finds the measure of the angle it makes with the ray described by the two relationships x = 0 and y > 0. Measure clockwise, such as a point where x > 0 would be between 0 and 180 degrees, and a point where x < 0 would measure between 180 and 360 degrees.
myscrnnm
1. Explain what a cosmological constant is.

A thing that occurs in Einstein's theory of relativity. The constant is proportional to the enrgy density of the vacuum. The constant also has negative pressure.

2. Describe how exactly water expands when frozen. Go deeper than "It forms a whatever." I want to know how the whatever is formed, and where.

Water expands when frozen due to the molecules moving away from each other. As the temperature decreases, the substance becomes more porous and therefore the spaces between the molecules enlarge.

3. What are logic gates?

Logic gates are arrangements of switches used to calculate operations using Boolean logic in digital circuits. Logic gates are often used in electronics, but can also be done with optical and mechanical elements.

4. What are the advantages and disadvantages of DRAM compared to other RAM's? How does it work?

DRAM is superior to standard RAMs such as SRAM because it is less complex. Due to its simple structure, very few transistors are required, so DRAM can reach high densities. DRAM was also invented by IBM, and if it is from IBM, it must be good. A disadvantage of DRAM is its susceptibility to electromagnetic interference, which can cause the RAM to spontaneously change to an opposite state, with drastic consequences!

5. Name and describe the outcomes of the basic types of radioactive decay. What forces are involved in each?

There is alpha decay, where alpha particles come out of the nucleus. There is cluster decay, where small nuclei come out of the nuclei, but are larger than alpha particles. There is beta decay, where electrons and antineutrinos are emitted. There is double beta decay, where two of each are emitted. And tehre is gamma decay, where gamma rays are emitted.

I don't give a crap if other people use my answers that are right, but it was fun to learn new stuff from this.

Put it in layman's terms.

How does it become more porous? At the level of the individual atoms, I mean.

Actually, that's just plain wrong. I kind of meant a function in a computer language, but a mathematical one works too. In case you didn't notice, this question involves both the x and the y as independent variables.

I know. But I was in a hurry.

2. Water molecules form a hexagon, which forms a rigid structure with a hole in the middle. This is very interesting, given that usually things condense when getting colder. Because when lakes freeze, it freezes on the top (ice floats instead of sinks), it allows fish to survive at a good temperature (acting as insulation). Otherwise, you might see rivers freezing, and also fish can suffocate (if too much water freezes), then there becomes less and less water for it to live in.
Mynck
But what causes it to form hexagons?
