um... when saved as a .txt file, it totally destroys the file structure, usually you can't change the .txt back to the original. Also, could you mention what the heck it is?
zip it first, that works better 
the ds is great n e 1 who disagrees should be slapped in the face with a hamster and then shot. and i cant wait 4 animal crossing!!!

And... if it was just saved as a .dsres file, then had its file extension changed to .txt, none of the data should be altered. It should still be the same thing if the person uses the "right-click>save as" thing instead of actually opening it, right?
