Using Adobe Photoshop 7.0, my first ever attempt at digital art:

Time: 4-5 hours? OMG and I accomplished an eye. An eye

Material: PS7 (The Blur Tool is my BEST FRIEND) and a... what do you call it... tablet? ("Ultra Slate Calcomp" and a cool little plastic pen clicky thingy that I found in the shadows of the office closet).

Goal: It was supposed to be cartoon-y at first (the black outlines), but then my traditional mind took over and I tried to shade realistically (the fake skin tone). It didn't work out, so I abandoned doing the rest of the face.

I will stick to traditional pencil and paper from now on. Yessiree. No more modern technology for me.

But before I give up all hope I have a question for the artists here:

Assuming you use Photoshop, what do you use to create super-smooth, wonderfully perfect lines? I can't line to save my life--I draw a blocky thing and then I shave off the sides with the eraser tool, which I think is a waste of time. I tried the Pen Tool, but I couldn't get it to work (it went all wonky on me). Suggestions?

Oh, and the shading. What do you use to shade? I have a few friends who prefer the Burn and Dodge tools--I find them uncontrollable and often much too dramatic or pressurized for what I want.

I take the color and then I either go a shade below or above depending on if I want to shadow or highlight. Then I color and blur in an effort to smooth everything over. It works. Occaisionally. But only when the moon is in the right position and the planets are lined up in accordance with the zodiac... bonk.gif

It'd take me just as long.

You can probably change the intensity or something.
