Looks as though PC World puts lots of Sony products on its 50 gadgets in 50 years list. Here they are:

1. Sony Walkman TPS-L2 - the first portable audio player in the world, introduced in 1979.

5. Sony CDP-101 - The first compact disc player in the world, introduced in 1982, it featured digital sound for audiophiles.

11. Sony Playstation 2 computer entertainment system - introduced in 2000, the first 128-bit gaming system ever made, featuring the custom-built Emotion Engine CPU and graphics synthesizer. Later used by the US Nation Centre for Supercomputing Applications to build a supercomputer capable of half a trillion operations per second.

19. Sony Handycam DCR-VX1000 - the first camcorder to bring digital video editting to consumers. Released in 1995, it was the first camcorder ever to use the mini-DV format, and used the IEEE 1394 standard to transfer videos to the computer.

29. Sony Betamax - released in 1975, it was the first device to bring home video recording to consumers. When the movie studios sued Sony, the United States Supreme Court ruled in Sony's favour, finding that Betamax's beneficial uses outweighed the potential harms of video piracy. Although it was eventually beaten by JVC's cheaper and higher-capacity VHS, Betamax is still valued for its higher-quality video and compact size. Not to mention it started home video recording.

44. Sony Aibo ERS-110 - first released in 1999 - the Sony Aibo was both cuter and smarter than the average dog. Advanced artificial intelligence allowed it to learn from its environment. It could also sit and roll over. Later models could recognize voice commands and featured a built-in webcam.

45. Sony Mavica MVC-FD5 - the first digital camera that recorded onto a standard PC platform, in 1997 consumers could save photos on the ubiquitous 3.5" floppy disc and view images in an instant. The Mavica also featured a sizable 2.5" LCD viewfinder.

With 7 of its products on PC World's list, Sony must be good. Also, the list can be found on Yahoo! News. Also, other gadgets on the list include the Apple iPod, which came in at number 2, and the Apple Newton, which started handheld computing.

Sony can be good, but it is not the only good company. Nintendo can be good, too.

No, cuz first of all, we are speaking of overall. I mean, if you want to get all nitpicky then IBM might be able to beat Sony for notebook design, and perhaps Apple Computer for DAP design, but overall, Sony is a jack of all trades, master of all.

This is totally different. Here, you're just being stupid. Mosquitoes are bad because they can transmit deadly viruses. But Sony is good because it has been statistically proven. You need to shut up with your negative comments.

Wrong. Because you have not stated any reasons as to why mosquitoes are good. Yet I have presented more than enough evidence to support the claim that Sony is good. I can also present counterexamples as to why mosquitoes are bad. They are a major health problem, transmitting diseases to more than 700 million people annually. They are also responsible for the deaths of one in every 17 people currently alive. They also transmit diseases such as yellow fever, malaria, and the West Nile virus. Mosquitoes have also arguably caused more human deaths than any other animal.

Uhh, thats not their fault, that's the disease's fault, and the fact that they can cause such destruction on the human race without humans being able to even put a dent in the mosquito population is a great example of their superiority. Thanks for proving my point.

Not really. Just because one is fit enough to make it to the top doesn't mean that one has to be good. Even Darwin said that.

Fine. Even if they are good, they are still not the highest lifeform. Humans are also superior to mosquitoes because despite our natural weaknesses, we have used out intelligence and what little resources we have to survive.

Wouldn't a natural weakness be... you know... a weakness? And mosquitoes have survived too.

An organism doesnt need to be "good" to be superior. Humans are disastrous toward the environment and other organisms, definitly NOT "good." Mosquitoes kill humans, big deal. Humans kill mosquitoes, and many many other organisms.

And goodness can't be a factor in something's superiority because goodness is relative, remember? And actually, superiority is too, because it varies depending on what factors you're taking into account, who/what those factors are going to affect, and how you weigh those factors against each other.

It's not merely about surviving. It's also about surviving in style.
