A IRC would be useful for this site.

I see you are the seconds of madness champion.

Good Job!
Well, we already have a chat board; what is the useful part of IRC? Also, we don't have a dedicated server or anything (I could figure out something), but do you have any suggestions for how to do it?
Also, what are other member's ideas on this?

...could someone enlighten me on what an IRC is, for krazyletter specifically? I mean, there's really not point to it...

IRC is short for Internet Relay Client. It's basically a real time chat room that's easy to set up and maintain. (If you have Chatzilla/mIRC you kow what this is) The thought was that you could chat in real time. IRC programs are common as you can just get the Chatzilla extension for that.
Easy to set up, easy to access, easy to maintain.
IRC doesn't take up much space easier, and can function as IM and chat room in one.

That's very dangerous. I highly recommend lappy not to install it.

Why is an IRC dangerous?

I told you on MSN.

Well, we do have the chance of undesirables drifting onto the channel...
We can get a free channel from centralchat.net, then register it and the usernames for the admin/mod. Then, you give the admins full power and the mods operator powers. That way we will be able to moderate it...

Also you can prevent unwanted people from accessing it by setting a password, and then PMing trusted members/ putting the password in a forum only validated members can see. You can also ban IP's from the channel, which would help moderators and admins.

I have modified an IRC bot to make it awesome and more secure. We could use this bot for room idling service as well as help people new to IRC with. In addition, this bot features trivia, uno, google search, and stuff.

I still say its a bad idea, for reasons I have stated above.

Very solid reasons why we shouldn't use an IRC</sarcasm>

What is your opinion on it?

I say no. Why? It would keep me from doing my homework.
Joking aside, I like the idea of an irc.krazyletter.com. There could be some main channels:
-> Main: #krazyletter
-> RP: #textrpg
-> Uno: #uno
-> Trivia: #trivia
-> 1337 (uses same password as the 1337 forum): #1337
I was thinking of making such a thing, if you don't want to have the IRC on your site, I'll host it.

Some points:
1. I don't have a dedicated server, so I'll have to host it elsewhere.
2. I don't know where I can host it (you said you can?)
3. I don't know how to use IRC (I can learn, just never used it really, and couldn't really learn for some reason)
4. If you hosted it, what domain will it be on, and what type of server?
(BTW did you get the 10GB/250GB plan from Bluehost, all you have to do is call, and they will give you that much storage/bandwidth, also looking forwards to seeing AliPanel coming up)

You can get a free channel at www.centralchat.net. Follow the directions there for info on how to register the channel, registering a name, and making yourself auto-admin.

The problem is that I'm using an IRC client, and then the register channel function doesn't work. Dunno why, yet...

They recommend using their version of mIRC...
Anyway, noticed you signed up for PCHelpForums, nice choice if you need computer help

I don't know if I can host it, I'll call up their support and see if they have any way I could set up an IRC server. If I hosted it, it would be the Ali-Nonstop IRC channels, in conjunction with Krazy Letter.
How would I get the 10GB/250GB plan? Is it a free upgrade or something?
lappy512

1. Bluehost can't host it. I know.
2. Call them, free upgrade.

I'm going to call them today. =D Thanks for telling me!
Well, it could be hosted on the irc.rizon.net. I've registed an IRC channel there before just to see what they're like. It could be channels like #kl-main, #kl-1337, #kl-trivia, etc. Then there are java clients that can connect to the channels that can be put up on the site.

hm... www.rizon.net doesn't work.
Yep, call 1-888-401-HOST
or, email them support@bluehost.com
